It’s not complicated. The secret is simple: post content – consistently, authentically, and with laser focus on your ideal customer profile (ICP).
Everyone in B2B knows the value of networking. More conversations usually mean more deals. But here’s the truth: you don’t need to rely only on conference lanyards or paid speaking gigs to do it.
Early on, I learned that paying for stage time at B2B events did boost visibility. I did it, although I was nervous most of the time. And it worked – sort of. I had people in the audience follow or send me connection requests while on stage and some even came up to me at the end to ask questions.
But once I started posting consistently on LinkedIn, I realised I was playing a completely different game.
When I showed up at events (as a mere attendee, not a speaker) after building a content habit, people already knew me. They’d tap me on the shoulder, reference my posts, open with a compliment, or jump straight into conversation. That didn’t happen nearly as often when I was just paying to speak. In fact, LinkedIn was delivering better connections, with the exact people I wanted to meet, than months of prep and thousands of dollars on event slots.
Know Your WHY
Here’s the elephant in the room: most people avoid posting from their personal profiles because they’re scared. Scared of saying the wrong thing. Scared of looking out of their depth. Scared of risking reputation.
So, they hide behind their company page and repost bland corporate updates. *Yawn*
If that’s you, flip the script. Start by getting crystal clear on your WHY:
- Do you want to attract top talent?
- Do you want to warm up investors before you pitch?
- Do you want to spark industry conversations and build a reputation for yourself?
- Do you want more brand awareness and more sales?
When you know your WHY, posting becomes a tool – not a fear. That’s when you start seeing results that actually matter.
And yes, I am guilty of being scared before I started too. Now I can’t wait to post.
Focus on Genuine, Sustained Value
Forget chasing virality. It’s a sugar high. The goal is to generate genuine interest – to inspire, to educate, and to guide your ICP toward better solutions.
At its core, business is an exchange of value. Your content should work the same way. If you show up with the intent to help a specific audience solve their challenges, you’ll create impact. And impact builds relationships. Relationships build deals.
That’s how you make LinkedIn work harder for you.
